Sarah Jane's "Children at Play" fabric came yesterday! While I was happy with the print (seriously, it's so adorable!), I was a bit disappointed that the print was so big. I thought it'd be much smaller and more densely repeating, this is my first time buying a patterned fabric online and I wans't sure how big the scale would be. I planned on making a matching doll dress for Baby Girl and now I don't know if it's going to work... I also ordered a coordinating print for Big Boy and I was ok with that because the white space was broken up with grids.
I used the Oliver + S's Tea Party Sundress (which apparently is out of print now) with the hope of making a matching dress for her 18" doll. I like the yoke of this dress, definitely interesting.
I originally planned using the corduroy as the outer layer and the dots as a little "surprise" underneath, but then more and more I looked at it dots began to win out. Also the bias tape below the yoke and dress was an after thought. I literally bought out all the blue double fold bias tape from both local Joann's near my house. I am serious, I bought them all. I was going to make the bias tape apron for all of Baby Girl's friends and I was going to need lots and LOTS of bias tape. I'm glad for the hint of blue, it really breaks up the red.
This was fun to sew, dress pattern was well thought out and easy to follow (unlike the instruction on Big Boy's shirt pattern... ugh) and I'm already thinking of making another one using tweed/corduroy/houndtooth combo. I can already see how awesome it's going to be in my head! =P
