I think those who know, this desk:

was sold for $675 by Factory20.

I was able to find a refinshed desk for $40. While scouring the local CraigsList for a matching pair for Baby Girl, I found an original desk selling for $20 in Beech Creek, PA and one for $50 at Nixa, MO. So if you are looking to own a vintage school desk that needs some TLC, head over there!

Simplicity 4586 - 7 Day Wardrobe Dress

Source: etsy.com via Radish on Pinterest

I bought a pattern that looks like this earlier this year, well... I know it was by Simplicity and it was a "7 Day Wardrobe Dress" line, but I can't be certain if it was this one because I misplaced the pattern the same day I received it. For the life of me I can't remember where I placed it. I vaguely remember proudly showing it to Dubya exclaiming "I used to wear something like this when I was little!" and then I don't remember what happened after.

It would be nice if I can find it before my vacation ends so I can get all this craftiness bug out of my system. Not that it's a bad thing, but I need it under control; I'm ignoring way too much house chores.

Speaking of lost things, I also can't find the buttons I need to finish Big Boy's cowl. He asked me to knit him a scarf while I was out with him so I took him to the local craft store and let him pick out the yarn and color. Well... I had to guide him away from the flourescent stripy yarn... the glowing blue... the crazy fire red.... he sure loves jewel tones... So I dropped all project I had going (sorry bro, your Christmas cowl will come little later than planned) and gave it priority and finished it and I can't find the buttons needed to finish the project!

I guess I should get off my butt and start searching, although the pattern seems like a lost cause... I've been searching for over a month now and our house isn't all that big so it's a real mystery where it can be.

-----

I was curious what the pattern looked like so I check the receipt and it IS the one pictured above. I wish I knew where it was! Thinking of making it in neutral color and focusing more on texture, like linen, houndtooth, and corduroy.

-----

On a random note, I think our ceiling is leaking again. I've been telling my parents I hear noises in the ceiling and had them even come over to hear it and both said they couldn't hear anything, but Dubya agreed and said he hears it too. Now I see a beige looking stain where the drywall seam would be. Great. Juuuust great. We just had the other hole in the ceiling made almost 9 months ago just patched up and now we have to deal with it again. Ugh.

Finished!

Little Red Riding Hood

I had originally planned on dressing Baby Girl as Snow White, but due to her unfortunate hair cut that made her look more like Dora, I decided to go back to the original plan of dressing her as Little Red Riding Hood; I had ordered The Big Bad Wolf costume for Big Boy anyway.

I didn't want to spend too much money on the costume, fabrics and material, they all add up. So I had planned on using the red velvet dress that she already owned, but I thought against it, it was too much red and not quite the look I was going for.

I had bought a vintage pattern from the 60's and I had the pieces cut out anyway, so I just decided to make do with that and I'm glad I did. Doesn't it look cute? I contemplated the apron, thought about making it, but I already had the pinafore cut out and it's only for a day... little deviant from the original can't hurt...

So two days later, voila!

Big Boy's "new" Norman Bel Geddes style vintage school desk.

It looks EXACTLY like this one:

I even found a hint of salmonish pink under lid seen on the picture. I guess somewhere in time someone refinished it (whoever did it did a good job though). The one in the link sold for $675 from Factory 20, crazy! Now I have to search the interweb for Baby Girl's matching pair!

Retro Dress from Vintage Butterick Pattern

Retro dress from vintage Butterick pattern

I made this dress for Bunny today. The pattern is a vintage from the 60's (maybe 70's?).

  1. it was a lot of work for a very generic looking dress. it wasn't suppose to be, it was suppose to look cool and retro! next time i'll pick a cooler fabric.
  2. it reminds me of "little orphan annie"
  3. corduroy was a good choice, it's a very forgiving fabric since you can't really see the stitches all that well.
  4. the sleeve was the most challenging, but fun part.
  5. learned that my sewing machine can do ruffles, I wish i knew that before i ordered the ruffler foot.
  6. not sure if Bunny will fit in it, measurement seems ok, but the zipper doesn't allow enough space to move around and that's even after I bought an inch bigger zipper than the recommended.
  7. definitely can not wear this out in public.
